The Silver Abduction

I need to draw your attention to some new music, which has been some time in the making. The Silver Abduction is long running musical collaboration between Andy Dragazis (Blue States) and Allison Brice (The 18th Day of May, Lake Ruth).

About 16 years ago, I got asked whether I would like to join Andy, Allison and drummer Phil Jenkins, to play bass for a live incarnation of the band. They gave me a cd-r of rough mixes so I could learn the songs. “Bloody hell, this lot are really good” I thought, as I hastily tried to work out the basslines. We did a string of gigs around 2009, which was a lot of fun, but it became increasingly difficult for us to play together due to a combination of various important life events and geography.

In the subsequent years, both Andy and Allison have continued to plough a course with their own musical projects. Allison with Lake Ruth, whilst Andy has released a body of solo work and a further Blue States LP (on which Allison appeared on a couple of tracks). However, The Silver Abduction LP remained unfinished, unreleased and unheard. Until this week.

The album is finally coming out on 30th August and can be pre-ordered now via Bandcamp. This includes a rather attractive limited edition LP on transparent blue vinyl (pictured).

There’s also a single “Quarter to two”, which can be streamed now via all the usual streaming platforms.

The promotional video for the single features some footage from one of our rehearsals. I’m the figure bobbing around with the bass guitar (although I don’t actually play on any of the studio recordings).

Despite only having a bit part in The Silver Abduction story, it’s something I look back upon fondly and it has been a real pleasure to hear these songs again in their finished form. And now, everyone else can listen to them too!
